In our recent trend-hunting trip through the city, we realized that the one thing everyone loves to be is a bit of a boho. We were surprised to see how the townies are caught up with this culture and unknowingly tend to incorporate it in their daily attires. Delving deeper, we found out that it’s not just about Mumbai, the boho culture is just everywhere.
If fashion was equal to power, Bohemia would probably have been the most powerful state in the world. The boho-chic culture evolving therefrom was once synonymous with Hollywood actress Sienna Miller. But today there is not a single country or culture that this style has failed to permeate. From classic boho to boho-rock to boho beachwear, this particular element has unknowingly become a part of every person’s wardrobe. Here’s why the boho-chic is still conquering fashion cultures across the world.
The Free Culture: The classic English coat and the traditional Indian saree wouldn’t dare to cross each other. However boho fashion, with its free culture elements, is constantly reinventing itself and weaving its way into the fabric of every society. It has collated a wide range of elements over time, varying from the first furry gilets to heavy metal jewellery to the modern ethnic graphic prints.
One would be amazed to see how BCBG Max Azria chose to blend bohemian aesthetics into flexed, sporty fabrics for their Resort 2017 collection. On the other hand, Naeem Khan paired up exquisite crochet designs with exaggerated ethnic earrings for his Pre-Fall 2017 collection. Where boho is concerned, the scope for experimentation is unlimited, and we can never get enough of it.
The Celebrity Statement: The classic boho is doing its own round of celebrity style coverage, from Neha Dhupia’s recent fashion statement at FBB Femina Miss India 2017 to Sonam Kapoor’s casual Insta-clicks in a flared white crochet dress. The boho no more defines just Sienna Miller or Kate Moss, but rather adds a definitive edge to the experimental looks of a lot of fashionistas and socialites across the world. No doubt the trends are trickling down to the stores and streets and flooding the market.
A Way of Life: Boho has never been just about fashion. Being a trend that picked up from the European gypsies and hippie culture, it is usually touched by those who are ready to go a step beyond their comfort zone of classic clothes. Therefore, it has easily caught the attention and affinity of the modern crowd who enjoy the scent of quirk in their multifaceted lives.
